Yes, thats the exact same thing as you know for Linux. Its Logical
Volume Management (LVM) same sort of thing as you do with HP UX and
IBM AIX.  you also run the same commands as pvcreate, vgcreate etc. 
we're using LVM heavily on our Tamino database server (200GB growable
filesystem for data). this runs on SuSE Linux 7.2 which has LVM
built-in. for redhat you need to patch it. hope this helps
