ahhh, lies, damn lies, and statistics.  this is what
happens when i go on impression and don't measure :).  

it's actually more like 1 minute.  maybe a bit longer 
since i start quite a few applications at the same time

it's definitely not 10 seconds.  if i removed the stuff
that automatically loads then i might get it down to 45
seconds.

i use mandrake.  hmmm, you know what (in reference to
Rick Moen's posts), i don't see kwm in ps. so, either 
this doesn't use kwm, or it does, but it changes its name 
so it doesn't appear in ps under kwm.  i don't see ktaskbar 
either.

thanks for the data point. i've got some spare notebook
hard drives. maybe i'll swap out temporarily and try out
slackware (probably not) and gentoo (more likely).
