I'd like to recommend adding aptitude to the list. It might not be as
strict as dselect, but it does the job quite well (and it's quite more
flexible than dselect, if not more featureful).

I've been using aptitude solely for some months already, and it's not
that bad (I don't have dselect installed on my Debian machines).
