I HIGHLY recommend the Orinoco Gold wireless card. It is supported by every version of Linux I am aware of with a simple configuration using the GUI. In comparison, I have tried Linksys, DLink, Netgear, etc. and have had little luck in getting them to work properly.
FYI - I mostly use Red Hat 8.0 but will be switching to Debian. Dave * 802.11b+ based DLink 22Mbps AirPlus cards with the binary acx100 drivers (Dlink cards seems to be popular among local dealers and cheaper than Linksys ones, but are the binary drivers mature?). They seem like a cheap way to get significant additional bandwidth.
