Guys, What are the recommended ways on debugging a kernel panic? I'm pretty sure of where the kernel panic is originating (and I'm sure I don't have to fire off an email to lkml), and I just need more data so I can both isolate the problem and (hopefully) fix it.
Background: I patched my binary-only winmodem driver to work with 2.4.x . During handshaking, system kernel panics (caps/num LEDS blink) randomly, but usually during high load. I need to confirm my suspicions, find out *where* it panics, as well as get a decent core dump (hopefully). I've read that you could patch the kernel to dump into a file. Some people have also suggested plugging a serial console and using that to view the results-- I don't have the luxury of serial console.
