Tips on dealing with an e-mail overload: ;)
(which you probably already know how to do, but ah well)

- Have your mail sorted into different folders or groups. For example,
my personal mail goes to mail.misc, PLUG mail goes to list.plug.plug,
  PLUG-ORG mail goes to list.plug.plug-org ...

- Sort messages by thread or by subject. This allows you to quickly
skip past topics you aren't interested in. Downside: People who reply
to threads instead of composing new messages may get lost in the shuffle,
but they really should observe proper mailing list netiquette anyway.

- Quickly browse through subjects.

- Figure out how to use your mail client's kill-thread functions.

- Score like crazy. Emacs/Gnus has adaptive scoring, which means it
can automatically score down threads I've killed in the past. I also
use it to score up certain people and score down known trolls.

- If all else fails, read your personal mail, read replies to threads
you've participated in, do a keyword search for your name, and
postpone the rest until you have more free time. |)

Emacs/Gnus makes it easy to deal with lots of mail. <grin>
