I have used Kylix for my thesis (something to do with TCP/IP networking - I used
Kylix for coding my client).

If you have tried Borland Delphi or C++ Builder in Windows, it is basically the
same as Kylix. It is a full RAD environment, and if ever you have coded in VB
before then you will be comfortable with it. It offers you the freedom to choose
whether to code in C++ or Object Pascal.

There is an Open Edition of Kylix, and you can download it for free at
www.borland.com. It is essentially the same as the commercial editions,
although it contains fewer components available. You can also download the
enterprise edition, but it is only available as a 1 month trial. I would
recommend you to go for the Open Edition - lots of components can be downloaded
for free (i downloaded TCP/IP components from www.nevrona.com). Try the open
edition...I know you won't be disappointed (being a borland fan, i might be biased).
