Amen. I hated it when I started out, and I still don't like it. I find
aptitude better - + to install, _ to purge, g for "go". Plus I get my
nice little categories, too.

Seriously, though, Debian... isn't... really... a... newbie thing. I'd
have probably run off screaming if I had tried it out as my first
distro. =) That said, I find Debian installs rather painless these
days. I usually do a floppy+net install (netbooted this one as I
didn't have any external drives), select the barest minimum I can get
away with, and then just apt-get stuff I like. (emacs21,
and.. well... what else do I need? ;) Kidding.)
