News & Kernel Feed
==================

We completed the first phase of our new and improved news service in
late July. As part of the new service, we've added the ability to view
our news headlines on any site on the web! If you'd like to have Linux
Online headlines appear as part of your web page, complete instructions
and sample HTML code are available from:

   http://www.linux.org/about/headlines.html

LinuxHQ has also extended the kernel information so it's available for
other sites as well! While you're adding our news headlines, you can
add the kernel status as well! Updated every 2-3 hours, we monitor all
major patch authors and post new releases as they become available.
Complete instructions on how to add kernel status to your web page are
available from:

   http://www.linuxhq.com/about/latest.html

SCO vs IBM Timeline
===================

In March, The SCO Group (formerly Caldera), filed suit against IBM
alleging contract violations and contributing copyrighted Unix code
to the Linux kernel. IBM has vigorously defended itself, including
launching a countersuit against SCO. A number of companies, including
HP, RedHat, etc, have weighed in on the controversy. SCO seems intent
on creating fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) in the Linux marketplace
with a stream of press releases and presentations but has been short on
providing much concrete proof.

We've added a section in our news service to give specific coverage to
this ongoing controversy. You will find a timeline, glossary and a
who's who of the individuals involved at:

    http://www.linux.org/news/sco/

Intermediate Course
===================

Development on the next installment of our Linux Course Series is in the
final stages! Building on the skills and information you learned
by taking "Getting Started In Linux", we will tackle the day to day
issues of maintaining a Linux system. Topics including security, tools,
and specific lessons on Apache, Postfix, SAMBA, MySQL, PHP/Perl and how
to install, configure and maintain these.

Shortly after the course is released, we'll be adding a system to track
your progress, a quiz to each lesson, and a final exam to test your
knowledge of the subjects you've covered. A certificate of completion
that you can frame will be available for a small fee. This fee will be
waived for subscribers.

Subscribers will also have a special Q&A section where they can ask
the course designer specific questions about the material covered and
enhance their knowledge even further!

Discussion Forum
================

Many people have written us to ask about posting comments and general
discussion about news items on our site. With the first phase of our
news system, we simplified the administration and presentation of our
news stories. We added calendars, individual story pages, story lists
by category or publication and a live news feed for other web sites.

The second phase is slated for completion in October. This will add
the much anticipated discussions, allowing registered users to post
their comments about our headlines. Comments can be posted for 36 hours
after we've posted the story on our site. We will be looking for a few
individuals to help us with moderating the discussions, but that will
come after the release.

Job Opening
===========

LinuxHQ is looking for someone to join the team that create and maintain
their web site. This is an entry level, contract position that doesn't
require you to come into an office. Ideal as a second job, you can work
from school or home for the minimum 24 hours we're asking for. You can
find a description of the position and application requirements at:

   http://www.linuxhq.com/about/position.html

Coming in October we begin accepting 1 year subscriptions to Linux
Online.  Subscribers benefits will include:
