Hehehe, I'm rather feeling foolish posting this.a good tutorial would be from the shorewall site itself, i guess you havent read all the docs/tutorials http://www.shorewall.net/shorewall_quickstart_guide.htm
I lost my job just because I do not know how to configure the network correctly. I couldn't get to share the modem for the classroom network.
First off, I have Mandrake 9.1 installed, DHCP is running (might not need?), squid proxy is running, iptables and masquerade is running, shorewall is used to configure iptables and ipmasquerading, and have Bind 9 running. What I need is a comprehensive How-to or a walk-through. I have diald installed but haven't got around to configure it yet. I can ping from client but not from client to the Internet. As for pinging, reply was server is rejecting.
I have the NIC on the server configured as the gateway, 192.168.0.2. Pinging that got the rejecting message.
Frankly speaking, Linux is still rather new to me as Windows has me dumbed out somewhat. I could have used pirated software, such as WinRoute to do everything but that would require Client Access Liscense for Windows and I am not going in that direction.
Any links?
No, this is not gonna gain my job back but will arm me with knowledge in the case I might have to do this again somewhere.
