Re: on blogs -- I see blogging as an efficient way to communicate. I can imagine quite a lot of people who would immediately protest and go off into how interpersonal communication is being institutionalized and brought down to the level of mechanical exchange. I know what you mean, and I mostly agree. But this system can be very useful and effective. There may be a number of people who just want to see the latest updates in someone's small project, for example. For people into development, or some common activity in general, it's nice to be able to do that. It may also be a way to get to know someone better, in a certain way. The contents of a blog are mostly composed of what the author intentionally projects, so there's no danger of invading privacy. And it's so flexible! One can post information about anything at all. I really appreciate all this data pouring in (and of course, the freedom to ignore some of it ^_^). This can also help set up an effective framework for actual intercourse (intellectual, that is -- interpersonal verbal exchange... you know what I mean), if things do get to that. And also, it's cheap. It's a low-cost, efficient solution for communication, and it's one that I have. It may not even necessarily be intended for anyone in particular. That's what I like about the Internet -- it gives anyone and everyone his/her own space. Of course, this allows for a lot of crap, which one has to wade through to get to the actual significant stuff, but each bit of it is _someone's_ crap, and might actually mean something for someone else.
