Forgive me for saying this, but if one is making $$$ off using something, 
I think it's fair that one pays some $$$ as well. The GPL explicitly 
allows this, hence the dual-licensing of MySQL.

It's the same story as Linux vs FreeBSD. I guess commercial issues will 
force your choice in what to use. Although, I think that the cost of say a 
MySQL license would only be a very small cost component of any 
closed-source software project. We're not talking 'bout Oracle here..
