I don't understand. On the contrary, it's the open source community that's contributed a lot of Java API's and tools. Many Sun stuff came from the Apache Software Foundation. The issue is not API complexity, but intellectual property rights. Now back to Linux... personally, I'm OK with not open sourcing Java... just remove the silly distribution license requiring you to ACCEPT the web download from Sun.
