last year, the most common question during the PLUG road show was "does linux have visual basic?" and we always gave them the usual answer "... gnu/linux have a similar RAD tool but for C/C++, etc. such as Qt Designer, etc." can't wait to hear those questions again and answer them with a big yes! coz there are now two Visual Basic-like F/OSS namely, Gambas & HBasic. and to my suprise, Gambas made it into Mandrake 10 gnu/Linux distro.

Gambas http://gambas.sourceforge.net/

Gambas is a free development environment based on a Basic interpreter with
object extensions, like Visual Basic. with Gambas, you can quickly design your
program GUI, access MySQL or PostgreSQL databases, pilot KDE applications
with DCOP, translate your program into many languages, create network
applications easily, and so on...

Maybe using a VB-like RAD tool on Linux can solve our country's low supply of local Linux Desktop Developers, don't you think?
