I've given the idea of Mozilla as the basis for a kiosk some thought.
I haven't done this, but it seems like a "chrome" for Mozilla with some
parts strategically missing would be pretty easy. To keep it from
shelling out, just run it chroot'd. Just give it a few libraries (use
"ldd {path}/mozilla-bin" to see which), and feed it whatever
directories/files it expects. Run it and use "lsof" to see what it's
up to.
There's no reason to run a window manager. Actually, I would advise
against it. Run mozilla with full screen geometry and you're set.
Figure out how to make X restart if mozilla dies, or just restart
mozilla if it dies.
