Hi everyone, On Slashdot[1] today I read about the FourHead[2] project. It's pretty neat how they were able to set up a computer to handle four local users simultaneously. Looking for more information on how to replicate this, I found the XFree Local Multi-User HOWTO[3] from TLDP.org, which is more detailed than the FourHead project page.
Whenever applicable, this approach seems to have certain benefits over using thin-clients. To name a few: less moving parts, less power consumption, and no network overhead. I'd like to try this setup out here to maximize some newer hardware we just got and now run Debian GNU/Linux. I don't know where to get an NVidia PCI video card locally, though. VillMan and PC Express only seem to sell AGP video cards. This is for office use, so I don't need anything too funky, something along the lines of a Riva TNT2 M64 should be good enough. Any pointers so I know where to start looking (aside from the usual SM CyberZone)? I don't think I'll have problems getting USB extension cables, hubs, keyboards and mice and monitor extension cables if necessary, so it's really just the PCI NVidia video cards. Thanks in advance! (And oh... has anyone done this locally?) --> Jijo [1] http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/07/03/1923255 [2] http://www.c3sl.ufpr.br/fourhead [3] http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/XFree-Local-multi-user-HOWTO/ [4] http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/multiuser/ -- Federico Sevilla III : jijo.free.net.ph : When we speak of free software GNU/Linux Specialist : GnuPG 0x93B746BE : we refer to freedom, not price. -- Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Official Website: http://plug.linux.org.ph Searchable Archives: http://marc.free.net.ph .
