Normally I would recommend updating the kernel ... but this is RHEL AS 3.0 and the support the RedHat folks give costs a lot of money that I won't recommend nuking it just for the trivial stuff of sound cards or other hardware support - for that it's just easier and cheaper to replace the non-RHEL certified hardware with certified ones.
