Have you tried isolating the error? You could do this by making a script on
MS 
SQL to simulate your 100 transactions per minute, and see if you still get 
the error. Then you'll see if the error is being caused by PHP+FreeTDS, or
if 
it's inherent with MS SQL regardless of the client connecting to it.

BTW, I gave up on FreeTDS long ago.  
I use ODBTP (http://odbtp.sourceforge.net/) for all my PHP-GNU/Linux to 
MSSQL-win2k needs.  It works flawlessly with my favorite PHP DB Abstraction 
Layer (currently ADODB), and I don't even need to recompile PHP to get it 
running.
