Thanks for the hints.

After running Knoppix, I tried `cat /dev/hda5 | strings -a | less` on
the swap partition (/dev/hda5) when I tried to repartition the disk. 
The first part of the partition yielded text expected of a swap
partition's contents, but what struck me is what I discovered as I
scrolled downward - it seems that there's part of /dev/hda6 in that
partition as I just saw the emails, dmesg entries,  contents of
configuration files...

Would I still be able to retrieve the superblock for /dev/hda6 should
it have resided somewhere in /dev/hda5 or it's not anymore possible as
I may have overwritten it already? Or did I just misinterpret what
I've read in the previous operation?
