Are you running a managed service (e.g. just upload your war files)? I'm not very comfortable with that, I'd very much rather run my own OS (on physical or logical/UML hardware), JVM, and webapp container. As for the memory footprint, it would very well depend on your architecture. Are you allocating session objects for each of those users? If the app is just a thin layer between the web and a SQL database, then it shouldn't grow large.
