/I normally  use netconfig to change IP our my Linux box. But when I 
check it with ifconfig after clicking OK I still have the old IP 
address. What I do is  to restart the box before I get to see the new IP
applied. How do I change the IP address without re-starting the 
computer. Btw I use Red Hat. Thanks for your help.

you can also try this command: (as root)

--- ]# ifdown ethX && ifup ethX
