in our organization, we divide the computer systems into to main groups.
we have a fix application group (those that only need to run a few specific
applications) and a general purpose workstation group.

the fix application group we migrated early on to a thin-client system. since,
these workstations only need fix applications (call center software, data
encoding software, browsers, emulators and others) to perform their tasks, it
was easy to ween the users out of their MS windows systems.

the general purpose workstation group is a bit harder. most of these are still
MS Windows and a sprinkling of linux. although, a good number use openoffice.
the current problem is that openoffice fails miserably in a few cases which
cause these users to stick to their MS Office applications. openoffice is
a great piece of software. but, as long as there is one person in the office
using MS Office, that document can be a reason to keep MS Office installed.
for this group, we are still working on other strategies.

and yes, we use PDF for presentations. btw, openoffice impress and calc have
very good MS Office document support. it is openoffice writer that handles
images very poorly (super slow).

good luck!
