To members and newbies,

we have seen the destruction of typhoon Winnie and Yoyong to our
brothers and sisters in the coastal towns of Central and Southern Luzon.
Real, Infanta and General Nakar suffered extensive damage in properties
and casualties. More than 900 persons were either dead or missing the
day after the typhoon.

"A military count at a field operations center in Real town in Quezon
listed 484 bodies recovered, with 352 still missing in the adjacent
towns of Infanta and General Nakar. The Office of Civil Defense at Camp
Aguinaldo in Quezon City listed 48 people dead and 38 missing elsewhere,
for a national total of 532 dead and 390 missing." [1]

As fellow ICT professionals, Linux Users, FOSS advocates and ethusiasts,
~ our campaign against monopoly in software production, patents, and
other ICT issues is part and parcel of the current desire of the
victims to surpass this unfortunate destruction in their livelihood and
lives.

On this regard, The Philippine Linux Users' Group is appealing on your
good hearts for donations and pledges for the calamity victims. Final
consolidation of donations and pledges will be on the PLUG General
Assembly on December 18, 2004. The donations will be brought to the
towns affected through the TASK FORCE: Gawad Kalinga of the Citizen'
Disaster Response Center, Community Health and Development and National
Council of Churches of the Philippines. These institutions are also
relying on volunteers for the task force efforts. We will be posting the
dates when they brought the donations to the affected victims.
Interested members can join them on the relief mission.

We encourage the following items for donations:

1. Bags of Rice
2. Bags of Sugar
3. Packs of Coffee
4. Tuyo
5. Noodles
6. Medicines
7. canned goods
8. used clothings, blankets, etc

we will also be accepting financial donations. But if you can convert
them into either of the above goods, it will greatly ease the accounting
work of the committee. Pledges are also accepted. Please email me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] such that we can arrange the pick up of your pledges.

Please forward this to your co-workers and friends. We will be posting
the Donors (with their permission) after the consolidation. Accounting
of financial contributions will also be posted.

Also, CDRC is asking assistance for the revision of their disaster
assistance database. Please email me if you are willing to volunteer for
the development.

Please do bring your donations on the PLUG General Assembly on December
18, 2004. A booth or a corner will be designated for the consolidation
of donations during the event. A donation box for financial donations
will also be available.
