Yes, Wifi is really cheaper especially when set up this way. You could even increase the range considerably with a good yagi antenna.
By the way, I just got interested by the idea of VDSL over POTS as a cheap and feasible alternative to fibre for long distance networking...I mean, why not? Have you already implemented this? I was wondering if VDSL routers (and media converters maybe?) are all I need.
