Hi Manny,

I just downloaded ClamAV and am trying it out.

I bet you'll be suprised how good CLAMAV is :)
I have clamav scanning side by side with trendmicro on my smtp server,
the detection rate is at par if not better than trendmicro, it was the first to detect bagle.c, mydoom-m2, worm_bagle_az, etc.
It can also detects phishing mails.

So far, it seems that the idea is simply to execute clamscan against any set of suspect files or directories. Is it really that simple? Like can I scan the entire filesystem with the follwing command and be sure I'm getting usable results?

# clamscan /*

well, yes. (better use clamdscan instead ;-) Although I bet you wont find any virus on your Linux box ;-).
Check http://www.clamav.net/3rdparty.html#pagestart for 3rd party applications
most people use their CLAMAV for.

regards, Kenneth
