Yes, squid in accelerator mode. It won't help with dynamic content, so
the idea is to cleanly separate the static resources into a static
server running squid. (If you notice websites loading, they refer to a
'static' or 'img' hostname). It's faster because squid takes much less
steps to process an object request, unlike Apache httpd which has
more.

Another option is to use a lightweight static-only httpd.
