If your looking for an interpreted type language you can also try GNU
pic (man pic ?).  It is usually installed by default since its
required by most programs (I think).  This is nice for creating a lot
of similar diagrams etc.  If you want, you can pipe the pic files to
fig format and edit them with xfig.  I use pic for flow charts,
schematic diagrams etc.  It is also very nice because you can pipe the
output to a latex picture environment
