long ago gimp 2.0 was promised to have decent color management. i
guess it didn't happen...

systemwide color management IMHO should be in the X server. but the X
server development community has fragmented, too. plus there are
people saying that something else (e.g. Berlin) is a better approach
than X. so i don't expect this area to be worked on anytime soon.

the "graphics pro" users on linux are all using maya and mental ray
anyway. i don't think they care too much about color management when
they're just doing modeling.
