you already have the exchange server.

what you wanted was to do the antivirus and spam scanning. generally,
you'll have a linux box, fetchmail is running on that box. when the mail
is received, it is forwarded to a local user (you specify that in your
.fetchmailrc

user 'methere' there with password 'mypass' is 'mehere' [more parameters]

this assumes that your email address at the external server is methere and
your login on the fetchmail box is mehere and your POP3 password
at the external server is mypass.

when you run fetchmail, mail there is retrieved and then delivered to you
here.

you still need to do the spam and virus scanning. so you configure your
fetchmail box to have an SMTP server that will do the scanning for you.
in another thread there is a discussion of this. see the thread on
"forwarding SMTP traffic" and look for the post by jimmy lim. the one
with a lot of plus signs.

please don't send private emails if you're just asking for technical help
(if it's private discussion, then send it in private email, sure). it
dilutes the
usefulness of the mailing list.

oh, i remember now why you sent private email, you're in digest mode
and your email address was in the To: line. that's one more reason to
go into non-digest mode. because you receive emails in closer to
realtime. in digest mode, well, if your question is urgent, it's going to be
an average of 12 hours before you get your answer.
