I can reach both web sites, not sure about the list. It is not unusual that computers do not respond to ping these days.

Check if DNS works by asking dig or nslookup For basic sanity checks, I found www.google.com to respond reliably to ping. Additionally it is good for checking DNS as it should change IP with most requests.
