That Linus recognized and publicly acknowledged his lack of empathy and
understanding of others is a great step forward and better now than never.
I see lower intensity "put down" messages on technical mail lists from
subscribers who use that software package daily in their careers and appear
to denigrate others who don't have their level of familiarity and
competence. When directed at me I tend to ignore them, recognizing it's
their issue and not mine. This is not to diminish seriously hurt feelings
among linux core developers, regardless of gender or level of effort. We
each react differently; perhaps a reflection of our epidermal depth.
Assuming Linus follows through with his commitment to counseling to better
understand that others are different from him and learn how to effectively
communicate and work with everyone he and the linux world will greatly
benefit. I wish him well.
