I did read up a bit on that, and if I hadn't found a suitable tool on Linux Mint I would have gone further. Being sure to get all the parameters right is why I like the GUI tools. I know I should learn to do it the command line way, and maybe one of these days I will give that a try.

For now I have a live on USB version of Slackware running. So far the stability issues I've been having with Ubuntu and Linux Mint have gone away. I can close the lid and the system continues to run. The screen goes blank, but comes back after I lift the lid, and the screen remains stable. With both Ubuntu MATE 18.04 and Linux Mint 19 MATE, I had those problems.
