I'm giving Xfce a try on my Ubuntu MATE 18.04 machine. So far my two major annoyances have been overcome. When I click on a link to a website, Firefox opens with all its controls now, and I don't have to run a fix for keeping icons on the desktop from hiding under the top panel.

One annoyance I am having is Xfce doesn't let me move icons to place that I want them to be. I can drag an icon to a different place on the desktop, but it won't stay there. It immediately goes back to where it was. The exception is that I can move an icon from one monitor to the other, as long as I move it to the far right side of the other monitor. (Monitor 1 on the left with all the icons where Xfce put them, Monitor 2 on the right.)

Is there a setting somewhere that turns off the feature of Xfce deciding where icons go?
