My experience is that installing the nvidia drivers using the apt

Following the instructions at:
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-the-nvidia-drivers-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux
I ran
$ ubuntu-drivers devices.
The recommended drivers are either nvidia-driver-390 or nvidia-340. So I ran
$ sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall
It took awhile, but finally finished. After rebooting I now have the
nVidia driver working.
Thanks!
