You mentioned "development cycle" - I understood it as - slackaware is and will keep working on developing 15.0. It seemed more likely that is being developed rather than being stuck in maintenance for so long. Perhaps long maintenance period would be better way to describe it.
Tomas, Allow me to try to clarify. Pat and the other Slackware developers have been incorporating new libraries while avoiding complexities such as systemd. There have been many changes from the kernel and other tools so there's been much effort expended. Very soon, we all hope, 15.0 will be released with the stable packages versions in the core distribution. When security or other fixes are made to packages they're tested then released so the core distribtuion can be upgraded. I don't know exactly why this release has taken so long because computers and Slackware are tools I use, the means to ends, not ends in themselves as they are for full-time developers, SysAdmins, and Network Admins. While the current stable release is 14.2 when a tool package is upgraded for a secutiry or bug fix Pat makes it available for 14.0, 14.1, 14.2, and -current (the budding 15.0). I'm a comparatively new Slackware user, only 18 years, and while I am eager to use the capabilities of 15.0 and applications I regularly use that need the newer libraries (such as glibc) I really appreciate using a distribution that stays away from the dangerous cutting edge (which can lead to bleeding) and the ease of maintaining my own network and hosts.
