The Library of Congress is a mixture of bleeding edge and "mummified edge", with accessions cataloged by a mix of techniques that varied over the centuries. Sometimes it takes more than three days to locace a document. The "purpose" of the L.O.C. is to find documents and data for Congressional staffers, not random citizens like me, nor to manage an individual book identification system. I have an LOC readers card, and often spend a day or two there when I visit Maryland relatives. A few of their archivists are document-finding wizards. In my feeble aspy way, I attempt to treat them well. ---- For the books I donate with odd identifications, I will just punt and let the Internet Archive sort them out. Some items are one-offs - early versions of books that friends wrote, code, lecture tapes, studio tapes. Keith -- Keith Lofstrom [email protected]
