There have been numerous runs at making a user-friendly laptop, in the
sense of repairability or tinkerability or open-source firmwareness.
One that has recently come to my attention is the framework laptop. I
don't have one, I haven't seen one up close, and it probably isn't
exactly what I would buy, but it's closer than other off-the-shelf
devices are.
