Keith, Ubuntu just recently extend their LTS support to be on par with redhat's lifecycle.
If you want to go debian I think mxlinux would suit your criteria well. It's based on debian stable but has easy installation of proprietary drivers. They backport newer software to debian stable so it's pretty usable as a desktop.
