Ubuntu just recently extend their LTS support to be on par with redhat's 
lifecycle.

If you want to go debian I think mxlinux would suit your criteria well. It's 
based on debian stable but has easy installation of proprietary drivers. They 
backport newer software to debian stable so it's pretty usable as a desktop. 
It's very light and their backup tool is great.

Debian did just vote to allow nonfree software for drivers in their isos so 
debian installs should be easier in the future.
