Why should anyone assume what the host name is that serves a web site?
Because the prefixed it with http:// . No?
Well, by the time you see it prefixed with a http:// you no longer need
to assume.
So http://whatever.i.want.to.do.will.work.DOMAIN.tld
OR
http://DOMAIN.tld
Whatever you choose, they both look valid to me.

P.S. We should also consider doing away with the TLDs. You can't argue
with the fact that the majority of them are dot-coms anyway. I would
like very much for people to find my website by just typing "GUNDY".
Hey, doesn't AOL have keywords already? :)
