I've installed FC5 on several machines since last week, and my desktop
at home is the biggest problem I've had so far.
I have a 200GB drive that mounts just fine in OpenSUSE 10 and fc4, but
in fc5 I get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ sudo mount /mnt/video/
mount: /dev/hdc1 is not a valid block device
from /etc/fstab:
/dev/hdc1 /mnt/video ext3 defaults 0 0
from dmesg:

and:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ sudo /sbin/fdisk -l /dev/hdc

For I while I was getting errors from smartd:
Apr 2 04:28:00 scooby smartd[4864]: Device: /dev/hdc, 1 Currently unreadable
(pending) sectors
Apr 2 04:28:00 scooby smartd[4864]: Device: /dev/hdc, 2 Offline uncorrectable
sectors
But I went through the "Bad Sector HOWTO", and I'm not getting errors
any more, and smartctl says:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# smartctl -l selftest /dev/hdc
smartctl version 5.33 [i386-redhat-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-4 Bruce Allen

and:

I've powered down and re-booted with smartd disabled, and I still
can't get the thing to mount. Any ideas?
Oh yeah, the vanilla FC5 kernel (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5), the corresponding
Xen0 kernel, and the openVZ kernel (2.6.16-026test005.1) all do the
same thing. I'm stumped.
Thanks,
Barry
