Yeah, I finally remembered that I had to turn on access to the 'unstable' branch to install git. It turns out that fink did have to build it as it didn't have precompiled binaries available, but it actually finished, unlike the source tarball I grabbed from kernel.org. Oh well, eh? Should I report that as a bug to kernel.org?
