Regardless of all that though, the fact remains that there are
millions of elderly and/or home bound people who may be left without
TV service for such vital things as Emergency Broadcasts and even
mundane niceties like the evening news.
Add to that the fact that the government is not forcing everyone to get rid of analog TV because it is better for the country, or it's citizens.

The government (FCC) is getting rid of analog TV because they can put 6 digital channels on the same frequency space as one analog channel. Read that as six times the licensing fees for the same frequencies they currently assign.

If they are forcing people to make this drastic a change to how they have been getting their media for their entire lives, just to make more money, they can at the very least pony up a few dollars to assist with the change.
