Folks, Michael Torrie has just demonstrated exactly how to behave courteously on the UUG mailing list. Check out his post "Native vs Bytecode vs AOT JIT -- was Re: favourite scripting language" http://uug.byu.edu/pipermail/uug-list/2008-February/022112.html Note that he: 1) Trimmed the message he's replying to. This is a sign that he respects the rest of us enough to spend a couple seconds making his message easier to understand. 2) Updated the subject line to more accurately reflect the topic as the flow of the conversation changes. 3) He did top post a comment, but he did so in a manner that makes sense instead of simply reflecting laziness. As with most etiquette, trimming and bottom posting is all about placing the needs of others before your own. It's like holding the door open for the person behind you, sure you don't have to do it but if you don't you're probably a jerk. Sure, lousy MUAs like gmail and simple laziness make untrimmed top posting the easiest thing to do, but that doesn't make it right.
