Another tip is to use a low-viscosity, synthetic oil. Most newer compact cars recommend 5w20 or some such. Using as low-viscosity oil as you can reduces friction and suction in your engine. Again, not a mind-blowing change, but a few percent. Just enough to be noticeable if you are a gear-head like me.
