I'll be migrating out of the country at that point... Government mandated security practices sounds like a terrible idea. Here is my prediction if something like that were to pass: The government would end up subsidizing Microsoft Windows because that's what most officials already use. In order to gain access to the internet, you would need a government approved operating system with government approved AV, and only using government approved programs. This kills off freely available Linux. Getting software government approved would be incredibly expensive. Look at the state of getting drugs approved with the FDA. It's incredibly costly. This kills off free software. And why? In the name of Security™. That's probably a little sensationalist, but definitely possible of the government takes over the networks in the US and mandates security practices. Rather than letting the government tell us what to do, we should be education children about good security practices. -- Eric Jacobs /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
