I just bought a couple of leapmotion units and thought I'd share my findings.
At first I couldn't quite figure out how to work it correctly, and thought I had a defective unit. Lots of initial stuttering. I fired up the settings, and I noticed a checkbox next to the words - use lower power settings. I clicked that and now it's running flawlessly and is actually quite impressive. While it is an interesting concept - the power requirements to run 2 cameras and the massive infra-red are pretty steep which makes me make the assumption that its not quite suitable for battery powered solutions. The demos are beautifully done and the packaging is very slick. The concept remains identical to kinect - infra-red beam blasting out with stereoscopic cameras receiving xyz coordinates of your fingertips. To use it as a mouse, you have to download "touchless<http://touchless.codeplex.com/releases/view/17986>" .. apparently this will work with any webcam as well FYI.
