cron +  xmessage? Of  course you'll have  to figure out  how to  get the
script X authorized.

Or you  could change your .xsession  to start a supervised  process that
does  the same---this  would avoid  cron and  have authorization  and it
would only  run while you're logged  in (because in .xsession  you would
terminate it when you logout).

Or... If you run KDE there's kteatime.
