That's a possibility. I have a 256 GB SATA internal hard drive.
Replacing that would cost under $100.

If I understand this correctly, the motherboard supports M key only, so
I could use an M key or a B and M key device. E.g.:

The existing array is all spinning rust. The expanded array would run
at spinning rust speeds, so spending the $ for SSDs would be a waste.
