Sorry, folks, the situation with cook.bundle is even more confusing than
I had thought.

There are actually *two* versions of cook.bundle both version 10.0.0.0
but of different sizes and dates. The one downloaded from the link I
mentioned is smaller and earlier than the one that works for me. But,
although they are of different sizes, I can't see the difference
between the two when I open up the contents.

And then there is the newer 10.0.0.332.

And there are loads of versions of mplayer around too, of different
dates and sizes. The latest version can be obtained (avoiding links
that the forum truncates) by going to VersionTracker, looking for
ffmpegX 0.0.9t, and at the bottom of the page clicking on "installation
instructions" for a page that links to latest versions of mplayer and
reallib (which includes cook.bundle) whether these work well together I
can't say.

All I can say is that you should try them out, but as mplayer is just a
Unix executable file, and cook.bundle is a Mac thing whose key item is,
inside it contents, a codec just called "cook", maybe some of our Unix
users can report on what versions (and sizes) of mplayer and cook go
well together.
