Thanks for the suggestion Triode. I've cranked up the bitrate limiting to 128kbit/s. No noticeable difference - the behaviour is the same. The log file is virtually identical, with the eception of the line:
Encoding as 44.1 kHz 128 kbps j-stereo MPEG-1 Layer III (11x) qval=0 There could well be a WMA problem in there somewhere too. I am unable to get any joy when entering mms://ms2.capitalinteractive.co.uk/xfm_high into the internet radio facility. The debug output still reports it is 'Unable to write MP3 output', but I think this is a symptom of the broken pipe problem with socketwrapper. I am only guessing. Further suggestions welcome to diagnose this elusive problem.
